COMMENTS

As everybody knows,  the 221 Ti , World BikeTrial Champion, is the reference of the top Monty bicycles, but if we have to find a top model into the electric bikes, without doubt, the EF3 is the one to select. That is why, Monty decided to make an exhaustive  test of the first Monty model equipped with a Lithium battery.

The first thing that anyone must know is that the EF38 is a folding bike. This model, like all the Monty folding bikes, has a special and an exclusive lever set, allowing to fold easily the vehicle in a few seconds. An additional security system is provided as well.

The usual use of a folding bike is to ride short distances into the city but this model permits to ride long distances in outer roads.

The frame is made in Aluminium 7005 with TIG welding, the classical Aluminium used by Monty in its bicycles. The frame geometry design allows a comfortable riding position, and the possibility to move the position of the seat  makes this vehicle to be suitable for the  children and for the adult people as well. Undoubtedly, the best of this model is to ride a folding bicycle of 18’ wheel as it were a standard walking bicycle. And everything is possible by the Monty special design in the compensation of the inclinations of the handlebar clamp and the oval tubes of the fork. The seat post being the item to regulate the height. That is why, Monty also underlines this model to be suitable not only into the cities but yes for long routes.

Another important point to take into account is the electric system of the vehicle. It is provided by a Lithium battery (weight: 2Kg) and the  weight of the whole bicycle: 17.300Kg. The engine is 250W brush.

It is important to remark that the actual Spanish legislation permits an engine with a maximum power of  250W. All the Monty products complies this regulation.

Other brands use engines of 180W but the 250W engines are more powerful and have a longer life.
The battery is 36V and 10Ah.,  providing the users the necessary energy to ride faster with the minimum effort.

The V-Brakes works correctly, with a precise and secure braking. All the other components of the EF38 are made in Aluminium: cranks, levers, seat post, etc. Besides, this model is provided with a transport bag, carrier, folding strap, head light, throttle lever and battery level indicator.

All the necessary to convert the user in the “king of the road".

TESTING

The testing was made in an urban area, in Sant Feliu de Llobregat,  60% on bicycle rails and 40% on normal ways.

From the first pedalling is evident that the EF38 is not a normal electric bike. Its power and softy driving are impressive. A lot of people say: “The EF38 is the best electric bike in the World”.

EF38 on plan ways: The maximum speed is : 21 km/h which can be increased to 25 km/h by pushing the turbo lever without changing the pedalling rhythm.

EF 38 on descents: It can reach the 45 km/h. The position of the user is always comfortable and secure.

EF38 on ascents of the 5%. Its performance is good  and on ascents of the 11 %  it never gets down to the 17 km/h.
